The Union has approximately 460 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 175,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in 11 states and Washington, DC. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union.

The Learning and Development department is dedicated to fostering the growth and professional development of 32BJ staff. We are currently looking for a highly motivated Learning Coordinator to join our team and help expand our capacity.

Reporting directly to the Director of Organizational Learning and Staff Development, the Learning Coordinator will be responsible for supporting strategic planning and program administration and implementation across the union's 11 regional districts. Additionally, you will contribute to the union's Racial Justice initiative, a key component of our learning strategy, which includes the coordination and execution or racial justice programs and initiatives that support the union’s goal of an anti-racist organization.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for adult education, movement building and detail. This role will also require the ongoing cultivation of relationships with the union leadership, staff and justice-centered mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Creation and Development of Training, Instructional Materials

  • Support the continuous improvement of departmental programs in collaboration with the Director.
  • Research innovative best practices on learning and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and prepare summaries for sharing with the Director and other key stakeholders.
  • Design curricula to enhance the L&D portfolio and further the department's mission of fostering the growth and support of union staff.

Training and Service Delivery

  • Coordinate with external vendors to organize training design and delivery, including the review of curricula, scheduling and approval of course content.
  • Travel to deliver presentations and workshops to union staff across the union’s 11 service areas
  • Co-facilitate training sessions that align with L&D goals, including those related to Racial Justice initiatives.
  • Independently facilitate L&D programs and adapting them based on the audience and specific needs.

Administration and Collaborative Support

  • Track and reports on program outcomes and metrics, preparing reports for various audiences, including Officers, Directors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain internal library of training resources.
  • Independently develop evaluative tools and make suggestions to improve work outcomes based on metrics
  • Collaborate with departments and districts to assess annual training needs, develop a systematic plan to align resources, and coordinate a shared schedule.
  • Support the union in its various programs to win for workers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Formal education in related field (Training, Instructional Design, HR, program management, community learning, etc.) or 10+ years of equivalent related experience.
  • Teaching and/or facilitating experience in diverse group settings, preferably within a unionized or worker-centered context.
  • Strong organization and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to show initiative, flexibility, creativity, humility, and empathy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; experience with Canva and Airtable is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Willingness to travel between 32BJ locations, with some extended hours (early mornings/late evenings) and overnights as necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and with self-direction.
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to translate materials into Spanish being a plus.
  • Strong project management skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Creative thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Previous experience designing engaging, interactive training programs using various mediums is advantageous.
  • Previous experience working with or within unions or other worker-centered learning organizations is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced environments with changing strategies and priorities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The position is a full-time position based in New York.
  • This position occasionally requires time outside normal business hours, including some nights and weekends.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is a full time position that occasionally requires long and irregular hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary for this role is $75,000-$90,000, depending on experience. 32BJ provides a generous benefits package that includes a fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan, for full-time employees and their qualified dependents. We offer retirement benefits, including both a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. The Union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
