Business Manager

Based in Lansing, MI

 

The OPEIU Local 459 Business Manager will supervise office staff and act as the President’s designee (as required) in Union representational and collective bargaining matters. The Business Manager will be responsible for implementing Union policy and procedures related to representing members of the Union and for proper enforcement of Collective Bargaining Agreements.

The position enhances the Local’s effectiveness by responding to incoming requests from individuals and other entities, directing the management of pending and approved arbitration cases, serving as liaison for legal counsel in arbitration cases, independently negotiating collective bargaining agreements, and duties as assigned by the Local’s Officers and Executive Board.

Requirements (minimum):

  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong skills with Office Suite are required (familiarity with Access preferred)
  • Able to manage and prioritize a heavy workload
  • Willingness to travel throughout Michigan and work irregular hours
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile, and valid automobile insurance
  • Extensive experience in the labor movement

Job Duties

  • Management and oversight of office and servicing staff
  • Administrate HR procedures and maintain personnel files on office/servicing staff
  • Participate in the Local 459 employee disciplinary process
  • Manage vendor contracts and renewals
  • Oversee the documentation and progress of grievances/arbitrations
  • Handle labor relations issues with servicing staff
  • Direct all collective bargaining
  • Direct organizing activities and report to International Organizing Director
  • Provide training and education to staff and members, as needed
  • Service members and bargaining units, as needed
  • Possess strong organizational and database management capabilities
  • Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Facilitate increasing member in participation

Compensation:
