PURPOSE: The Senior Human Resources Organization Partner is responsible for the functional areas relating to the administration and coordination of the Human Resources Department. The incumbent is expected to be a strategic partner who is proactive in developing and implementing solutions that both meet our workforce challenges and also closely support SEIU’s vision for a just society.

  • Serves as a leader within the HR team, providing thoughtful input and analysis on issues both departmental and union-wide;
  • Maintains regular and consistent contact with key leaders in assigned organizational units, serving as a thought partner to help inform the units’ actions;
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to develop solutions, programs, and plans of action;
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues; conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations when necessary;
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance;
  • Works in partnership with the Legal Department as needed on labor relations and compliance matters;
  • Participates in the development and execution of programmatic initiatives within the HR Department, including both internal and external programs;
  • Provides day-to-day personnel management guidance to managers;
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships and increase productivity and retention;
  • Provides HR policy guidance and policy interpretation to staff;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

CONTACTS: Include SEIU International leaders and staff, legal counsel, contractors and consultants, insurance brokers, local unions and affiliates, and federal and state agencies.

DIRECTION AND DECISION MAKING: This position reports to the Director of Talent and Human Resources or their designee and works independently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or a comparable degree preferred, and at least seven (6) years of related work experience. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and/or HRCI Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certifications are strongly preferred; SHRM-SCP and/or SPHR are a plus. All applicants must possess a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of human resources practices and principles;
  • Knowledge of labor unions and their operations gained through union-side employment, or comparable experience working with non-profit and/or mission-driven organizations;
  • In-depth knowledge of employment policies and procedures;
  • Skillful ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at varying levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing;
  • Tactful ability to manage up, laterally, and down;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and meet established timelines;
  • Demonstrated ability to gather abstract and complex data and draw sound logical analyses and conclusions;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle, maintain, and control confidential and politically sensitive information;
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the union in sensitive negotiations;
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and software;
  • Skill in the use of personal computers including Microsoft Office and Google software suites.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally performed in an office setting, but may be required to work in other settings conducive to performing the tasks required to complete assignments. Some travel and extended hours are required.
